Why does my Litter-Robot keep saying drawer full? ›

Check for obstructions blocking the drawer full indicator (DFI) sensors. There are two sensors inside the base, above where the waste drawer would sit. Debris, such as dust or cat fur, can interfere with the DFI sensor. This can cause the unit to inaccurately trigger a drawer-full indication.

Cleaning the sensors

This can cause the unit to inaccurately measure the waste drawer level. Wipe the bezel area where the sensors are located with a dry clean cloth to remove debris such as hair or dust. Vacuum the bezel area with a brush attachment to clean out any debris that may be inside the bezel.

The OmniSense system helps track litter and waste drawer levels. During each clean cycle, the DFI (drawer full indicator) sensor, positioned on the bezel, measures the level of waste in the drawer as the waste disposal opening in the globe passes over the waste drawer.

There are three laser sensors located in the top of the bezel, called curtain sensors, that accurately measure the capacity of the waste drawer. During each Clean cycle, the DFI sensor will measure the level of waste within the waste drawer as the waste port passes over the waste drawer.

Cleaning the sensors

With the globe, bonnet, and drawer removed, lean the unit backward so that you can look into the holes on the bezel to see each sensor. Using a clean, dry cotton swab, carefully clean the surface of each sensor to remove any dust.

IMPORTANT: Any time you do anything that affects the weight or placement of the unit, including adding or removing litter, emptying the waste drawer, or moving or cleaning the unit, press the Reset button once you are done.

Be careful not to overfill the globe. If there is too much litter in the globe, it can cause cycling issues (getting stuck during a cycle). If there's an excessive amount, the excess clean litter will be expelled into the waste drawer during the first few cycles.

Press and hold the Reset and Connect buttons for 3 seconds, then power the unit on.

How often you will need to empty the waste drawer depends on the number and size of your cats. For two average-sized cats, twice per week is typical. For a single cat, once per week is usually sufficient. You can use Litter-Robot custom-fit waste drawer liners or any 8-13-gallon (30-49L) trash bags.

Press the Reset button.

Any time you affect the weight or placement of the unit (including emptying the Waste Drawer, adding or removing litter, or cleaning or moving the unit), press the Reset button to ensure the Weight Sensors will detect your cat and cycle properly.

Press and hold, while at the home position, to enter sleep mode. Press and release the Empty button to start an empty cycle (empties all litter into the waste drawer).
